Sorry thats not how it works.
I can make a 75 dpi photo fit on a 26 inch tv the same as I can make a 1200 dpi photo do the same.
You need a program like Adobe's Photoshop, CS,CS2,CS3, Illustrator, Indesign, or one of the many Adobe programs that will allow you to resize your Photos.
Remember the higher the dpi the clearer the photo and the less you loose in resizeing, or changing to one of the 15 or more Formats this software will allow you to change.

resolution depends on pixels, not on the size of the screen.
Therefore, the answer will change depending on the features of the TV.

.you can do 720x480 which is the size of an ntsc (american) dvd..thats about it.
