I had a red-eared slider. It was one that hatched from an egg.
It was only the size of a nickle when hatched, and within nine months it was about 4 inches long! I had to keep increasing the size of his tank as he grew. Yours is too small! I got a huge rubbermaid container at Wal-Mart. He had about 8 inches of water, with a platform to crawl out, and a lamp
from a hardware store that has the aluminum surrounding it. I bought a special 40 or 60 watt ultraviolet light bulb and put it
about eight inches above the platform. I kept it on all day for him to bask. At night, I turned it off. I had a regular aquarium filter that was big enough for a 30 gallon aquarium, and several aquarium heaters to keep the water warm. If their water and his environment is too cold, it will become lethargic, and maybe even go into a hibernation mode. They wont eat when it's too cold, either. The bottom, I had about 1-2 inches of sand. He thrived in this environment.

They need the uv light to help digest food. You could buy one, or put them outside if it's warm enough for a couple of hours a day. The tank you have is too small. He needs to learn how to swim and needs a basking area. Start out with the water high enough so that he can turn himself over if he lands upside down, but still be able to stick his head out of the water to breathe. Then when you notice he's become a good swimmer, increase the water level. Hope this helps!

Feeder Items: are living feeder fish (guppies, goldfish, minnows), earthworms, crickets, waxworms, earthworms, silkworms, aquatic snails, blood worms, daphnia, shrimp, krill, mealworms. For very small turtles, prey would possibly need to be reduce into smaller portions. Larger turtles may also be furnished greater units like tadpoles. Leafy vegetables: collard, mustard and dandelion vegetables, kale, bok choy. Head (iceberg) lettuce will have to by no means be feed because it comprises little or no nutrients, however darkish inexperienced leaf lettuces (e.g romaine) may also be feed sparingly Aquatic crops: in an aquarium or pond you'll be able to upload aquatic crops on which turtles frequently like to snack. Supplements A well reptile multivitamin with calcium and nutrition D3 shoule be combined with the meals a few occasions per week. Also, an nice option to furnish further calcium is by way of placing a cuttlebone within the turtle tank. These are customarily avaiable within the hen segment, and they are able to be affixed to the tank or simply floated within the water Set them on a 20 gallon tank in line with dozen turtles . Provide them with a dry land field and a shallow water field. Newborns have to grasp the artwork of floating and staying underwater for lengthy intervals of time. Don't count on that they're going to live on best with water. Newborn Red-Ear sliders can truthfully drown for those who forget them a dry land field. The water will have to be now not too deep. its better to put more water than little water so the turtle can swim and moves their body and it will help them grow, remember always have UVB light and a regular light. the UVB light helps them prevent bone disease and the light bulb help them keep warm. you should also have fake leaves. this will relax and relieve their stress. hope this helps. dont overfeed it and make sure you have the right temp of water. should be around 75
