we have had so much rain in oklahoma this year.how do i keep the mosquitos away

Mosquito Dunks destroy Mosquitoes - by killing the larvae before they mature into biting adult pests. They're the only sustained-release B.t.i. mosquito larvicides available. Just place in areas of standing water.
You could check out the high tech Infrared Mosquito Killing Trap (IMKT), to see if this is an option. I haven' t had any experience with this, though.
Try to removed standing water & fill in low areas in yards to discourage puddles. Keep drains, ditches and culverts clear to allow proper drainage. Check for any damp spots where mosquitos can hide & breed such as clogged roof gutters.Trim shrubs to discourage them from resting on foliage.
Mosquitos also don't like Citronella, Catnip, Rosemary, Thyme, Lemon Balm, Mint, the oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Oil or Garlic. Make a spray of one of these & add a Tablsp Ivory soap & 1 Tablsp vegetable oil to 1 Gallon of water and spray. Try to coat the mosquitos because the oil suffocates them.

Use citronella torches &/or candles.
Cinnamon oil shows promise as an environmentally friendly pesticide, killing mosquito larvae more effectively than DEET.
Cedar chips are helpful. Spread on pathways.
While combating those bugs, avoid the mosquito's most active time between the hours of dusk and dawn. On windy days you can usually move about outside with less mosquito confrontations & protect yourself.
The CDC says " oil of lemon eucalyptus provides protection time "similar to low-concentration DEET products in two recent studies."
Iowa State U. researches have reported that an essential oil found in catnip (Nepetalactone)
is more effectivethan DEET. (Organic Gardening Aug/Sept '06)
Rub Lemon balm leaves on yourself to repeal mosquitos.

Those little pesty bugs are awful. I've heard that you should make sure there isn't any standing water, no containers in the yard to collect water, for when it stops raining, everything should be kept upside down. I also heard that if you keep a dryer sheet in your pocket or rub the scent around you as you go outside, the mosquitos don't like the scent for some reason. Tons of information in the link below!

Make sure there is no sitting water/puddles around, and if they can't be eliminated, try going to home depot and finding a product you can put in standing water to kill the mosquito larvae. Unfortunately, I can't think of the name of the product, but I *think* the company is Beckett, and you can find it in the pond section.
Second, if you're going to be hanging out outside, try the Off mosquito lantern (http://www.offprotects.com/mosquito-repeller/). I don't really like the smell of it, but it seems to work pretty well.
Last, something that doesn't sound so pleasant, but they really are harmless---attract bats. Some bats can kill up to 1000 mosquitoes an hour. Don't worry, they won't fly at your head or get tangled in your hair. I have heard, but never tried (We have them under our deck without doing anything) bat houses (http://www.thebirdshed.com/bathouses.html)....That link for some reason won't take you directly there, but scroll down on the left side to find it.

some months returned after the wet season, we've been plagued via skitters and that i got here upon somewhat blurb in the AARP bulletin which we tried and it works. mixture 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a tumbler of water located on the table or balcony and for some reason it keeps them away. for terribly own protection, rub a dab or 2 of lavender oil on your wrists and elbows. have not been bitten yet!

i live in mosquito city, usa --- or at least it feels that way. bug spray just doesnt cut it anymore... the only thing that works here is anything with deet in it... (i think thats what it is called) but I think that is pretty risky to use, particularly around kids.

If mosquito like standing water then should we not give them and then monitor and kill if we find some larvae there?
