I'm thankful I don't have kids yet for this very reason. I was in Wal-Mart a couple days ago and I saw this.
A mom and dad and their 4 or 5 year old child. They were in the toy section with their cart full toys and crap already. I could tell these people were rich who often spoil their child. The child saw another toy that he wanted. And the parents said no and child started sceaming and making a scene. The child actually said this to his mother, "you b*tch you better buy it, I want now." And the kid stomped his father's foot and punched him in the b@lls. The father later gaspingly said to the child, "settle down you know what happens when you get excited." The mother said calmly, "do you want to sit on knotty potty when you get home?"
Yeah, I really saw this on the way to the electronics section. If I acted like that when I was little, I would have gotten my @ss spanked right in the middle of the store for sure.
What would do if he was your child?

Yeah, my mom especially would have given me a very bad case of the red @ss before I would have left the store and when I got home.

Yeah, I do need to give my opinion on this. I wouldn't burden my wife to hand out this punishment. I would give him the ultimate punishment. The punishment that would make him want a regular spanking from his mom. I would use my belt, but of course not the buckle.

I'd put everything back, say "Don't you dare disrespect us! We are the parents, we are in charge. You're acting like a baby with the mouth of a criminal. Criminals go to jail. Do you want the police to take you away? You'll see what it's like." And I'd find a security guard and have the brat sit with him in a holding room for 10 minutes at least. When he got home, he'd have to do all the dirty work chores at home, because he had a dirty mouth. And I would take away anything fun for 2 wks--1 wk for disrespecting each of us. Of course, I wouldn't have let it get to the point of him using that language! How horrible!

Wow. We must live in the same area because these people sound a lot like my friends and their kid. First of all, when I have children I won't raise them to be like that: I know the value of a dollar. But if I were those parents, I'd slap him on the @$$, leave my cart in the store, and take him home immediately and there would be no dinner for him.

Oh crap, wow who taught that kid to say words like that? Man, I would so kill that kid right now, well not kill and not rape I mean like hurt him until he keeps quiet. I hate children who are too spoiled, like I know I'm kind of spoiled but when you have a cart full of toys on a regular day then that's just stupid. What kind of parents are they doing stuff like that. They'll then turn into some spoiled teenager and he'll probably get like two cars and he probably wants the best and he'll probably have no friends because of his attitude. Those children need to know how to keep restrained and to not call their mum's bad words because the child is one himself.

Fortunately, my kids were raised during a time, where people didn't interfere if you swatted your child on the rear.
If for what ever reason ( I can't think of any) the basket would have been filled with toys, and he had started to throw a fit about another toy....the basket would have been left where it sat. My child and I would have left and gone home, whether he/she would have been screaming or not.
We had no Naughty Potty...the potty at our house was used for pottying.

My child/children would never act like this.
I have trained them too well for that.
Training a child is a parent's responsibility & those parents have been lax in that area, I am afraid.
It affects society, not just the parents'/family.
They need to get a grip on their child's behavior before it is too late...
children LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE anyhow.
My 4 yo does not KNOW any words like that. He does not hear them , so how can he say them?
You are right, raising kids is a huge job. Not to be taken lightly. Not all kids are this way, only ones who parents ALLOW this behavior.
Shocking, I know....

Like you, I am childfree. Once I became a teacher I decided I didn't want kids. The behavior I see at school and in public places is appalling.
I have stopped shopping at Wal-Mart because of the children's behavior I witness there. That store seems to be the worst.

First off neither of my children have ever done anything like that. We teach or children what is ok, and those parents will be having a hay day for years to come. I think I would have taken everything out of the cart and he would have gone without anything.

Then i could purely provide the youngster the silent treatment for some years until it became sufficiently previous to be attentive to what an apology is and the thank you to apply it. Gaaah I hate spoiled youngsters and oldsters who ruin their youngsters.
