I have alot of original creatures, concpets and characters I draw, and i'm always wondering what the general public thinks of my artwork. But i'm too afraid to post because i'm afraid someone will steal my ideas. Where or how can I post my art so that they are protected from thieves???

Thank you!<:

What I do when designing and coding a website for people that have photos and such is

A: Make it a very low resolution picture
B: Imbed a No Right Click script in your webpage html. (You can find that by typing in no right click script in any search engine)

If you do not want to do any of that I highly suggest Flickr.com
they let you upload pictures and they have an embeded script that does not allow people to copy your pictures. As for your ideas I would look into copyrighting your work.

I see it done a lot, you post a thumbnail; a low resolution picture.

Go to some of the sex sites and look at their samples. If you want to get the good pictures you have to join the web site. But, if you take the free tour then you can see a whole lot of pictures of pretty women. The idea is that these pictures aren't good enough to steal, but they make you want more.

This is foolproof because the resolution of the picture size is set by you and changed by you. When you look at a JPEG image with low resolution and a small size then you only get an idea of what it looks like. You need a high resolution image to be able to steal it. People can copy some of your ideas, but most of them will think of how cool they are and give you some suggestions. Most people can't draw very well, and would have trouble stealing your drawing unless you had a high resolution version.

I am a draftsman and I draw technical drawings all the time. Few engineers knew what they wanted drawn, but once they saw what I did draw then they knew. They had to have the drawing in front of them first.

Sadly, your ideas can be copied/taken, you can copyright your original work, (but like they said its expensive, tedious & its confusing too (the link below might help). But we can't copyright ideas. People can still use them. That's just how the art industry works! There's a couple things you can do, though, I have my artwork on my website & I put "Copyright" & the year it was done next to each image. This is sort of a poor man's (or woman's) way to discourage people from trying to reproduce your art. The watermark idea is very good, but it does distort your images slightly, so its personal preference. Plus that doesn't keep anyone from taking your "ideas." Another way to protect your work is to send a copy to yourself through the postal service. Keep it sealed & if there's ever a dispute about who did the work first, you have proof in the sealed/dated envelope. Its not an absolute method, but it helps. It IS unnerving posting your work, I've had an original technique "stolen," not much you can do about that, except take it as a compliment that your concept was good enough that another artist wants it. & Don't let the fear keep you from showing your work, we might create art for ourselves, but most of us have a need to share it.

There are a lot of resources available online that you can check into about placing copy wrights on your material. I write a lot of poetry and I was worried about the same thing. Problem is it can be quite expensive and tedious to have your work copy wrighted. I errored on the side of caution and decided not to post my most precious works online until I could afford to copy wright them.

I wouldn't post it on the net. Find an art society near you. they periodically have exibitions and classes to take and you'll be able to display your art without the fear of someone stealing it.

Nowhere, hunny. Anywhere you publicize your art, people will be able to see it, which unfortunately means they could steal your concepts. :-/

when you publish something, you should always expect piracy. even you put your signature on it, its not gonna prevent that. you can prevent other people to use your works, but you cant prevent other people to use your idea.
