There were 50 cookies and 40 carrot sticks served as refreshments. Each case member had the same number of cookies and the same number of whole carrot sticks, and nothing was left over. the drama teacher did not eat. What is largest number of case members that might have been at the party?

Since everyone had the same number of carrot sticks, the number of carrot sticks must be a multiple of the number of cast members.

Same for the number of cookies.

The largest number which divides evenly into both 40 and 50 (their greatest common factor), is 10. So 10 is the largest number of cast members that might have been at the party.
