First of all, it really depends on which birth control pill you are taking and how regularly you have been taking it. If you are on a low dose birth control pill (Alesse, Mircette, LoOvral, Nordette, OrthoCept, Cyclessa, Yasmin for ex) and have been faithfully taking one pill daily at about the same time everyday, you pretty safe. There is not enough hormone to do much other than affect your cycle (which obviously it didn't)
If you have missed a day and doubled up or are on higher dose birth control your chances of problems start to increase.
However, the amounts in modern birth control are still relatively low. To compare, think of the amount of birth control taken to abort a pregnancy is about 10 times the amount in a normal birth control pill.
That said if you have taken normal doses of a low (or even higher) dose birth control, you likely will have no effects. As stated in another post below, many babies have been born while the mother was on birth control with no adverse effects. There remains a small risk which is why birth control handouts will warn you. However, if it was a serious and likely risk, the warnings would be a lot bolder.

Nothing. There is no scientific evidence proving that taking oral contraceptives while pregnant harms the baby (it says so in the little pamplets that come with pills which you should read) But if you suspect that you are pregnant stop and Take a test to be on the safe side. If you arent, dont have sex during this time because you may ovulate but when the time comes to start your next pack start taking them on time again like you were.

well, once you find out, you need to stop taking them. i think everything would be okay, so long as one stops as soon as one knows that one is pregnant.
