Roger Federer is an awesome tennis player, and in just a few more years, he will be the answer to your question. As of right now, I have to say that it is Pete Sampras. He has no weaknesses. He has an amazing serve. He has the best shot (running forehand). He could play great on every surface. Rod Laver certainly comes close, but Pete Sampras IS the greatest male tennis player of all time.

I'd go with Sampras... If only Federer could beat Nadal at the French!

Federer once he ties or surpasses Sampras, till then Sampras. Nadal doesn't even rate in this conversation.

BJORG!! How can anyone even have a second thought about this? he won Wimbledon AND Roland garros back to back! he was great on any surface. Sampras never even made it to first base on clay!
Bjorg was colossal!!!

I'd go with Laver or Sampras, but give Federer a few more years and he'll be it.
