From what I've heard, they were over the salary cap by an extensive margin the season they won their first Super Bowl.

I believe that it does not matter as long as the owner is willing to pay out the exorbitant fine imposed by the N.F.L. If that means they were cheating, then, I guess they did. You might want to research this for confirmation.

It's all about matchups. The Broncos have a really good run-blocking scheme, and really good Corners. The good corners over the past few years (Champ Bailey, and Deltha O'neal at different times) are a big reason why New England had trouble with them. Look at the team the Pats had trouble beating this year, most had good secondaries (Philly, Giants, Ravens) Also, the same way the Broncos have the Pats number, the Colts have Denver's number. Indy has Put the Broncos out of the playoffs like 3 times in the last 5 years or so (I might be lumping some regular season games in there though) The play I remember most was a big pass to Reggie Wayne, and down field, Marvin Harrison pancaked Champ Bailey on a block, and Reggie pointed to it as he ran by on his way to the end zone for a TD. Anyway, even if you have the defensive signals, it's still not a guarantee, you still have to go out there and execute. The D-line could be getting consistent pressure (Like Giants were able to get in the Super Bowl) messing up timing routes. Receivers can drop passes, running backs can fumble, etc. etc. I wish I had a link for it, but I don't, but I saw a clip of an aftergame hand shake between New England's staff and Tampa Bay's staff from like 5 years ago, and a TV camera got Charlie Weis on tape talking to one of Tampa's coordinator's saying something like: "I don't how you guys pulled out that win on us like that, we had all your defensive signals the whole game, and we still couldn't move the ball." So, you never know.

The Yankees NEVER violated a salary cap because they don't HAVE ONE in MLB. They have a "soft" cap where you have to pay a tax for going past it BUT it's ok to pay beyond that soft cap and to a degree MLB WANTS them to so that they can get the tax.
As to the Broncos YES they cheated. They went over the cap and KNEW it. They didn't care and the NFL didn't care. The NFL WANTED the Broncos to win because Elway was about to retire and they wanted him to have a ring.

How in the world do you cheat in pro ball? Everybody says the refs were paid off in this game or that game, but nobody has ever offered any shred of proof. If this was so wide scale, there'd be all kinds of evidence & people eager to expose it. People today are physically unable to keep a secret.

The Denver donkeys cheat every time they step on the field. Don't you wonder why the smallest o-line in the league is consistently one of the best?? It's because Shanahan teaches illegal chop blocking and also teaches how to do it without getting caught. They're dirtier than the Raiders.

wow what kind of desperate loser fans are you to be bringing this idiocy up 10 years after the fact? what's the matter are you charger fans, browns fans, never won one huh, that sucks guys but don't worry maybe one day............they wanted Elway to get a ring? what about Barry Sanders, Fran Tarkenton, Archie Manning, man if they wanted every good player that was a good guy to get a ring the NFL would be a bigger mess than the WWE.

Same thing happened to SF after one of their SB wins. The owner paid a hefty fine to the NFL.

Chop blocking isn't illegal. The method the Broncos use for it isn't illegal either. It's dirty, but far from illegal. An occasional high-low might happen, but it usually isn't intentional and happens throughout football.
