Well, there are 2 possibilities:
1). x is the hypotenuse,
so x² = 4² + 5² = 41.
x = 6.403(approx).

2). x is a leg.
Now x² + 4² = 5²
x² = 9
x = 3.

If 5 is the hypotenuse, x=3 from
5²-4²=x²
25-16=x²
9=x²
x=3

if x is the hypotenuse
x²=5²+4²
x²=26+16
x²=41
x=6.4

your not telling us one thing, what sides are 4, 5 and x on
you'll get different answers

4^2 + 5^2 = x^2
4^2 + x^2 = 5^2
5^2 + x^2 = 4^2
