If it meant we would not dependent on some countries in the world that are not very friendly to the U.S. How about doing a little more walking? Its free and its great for the health. Would eliminate alot of the obesity in our country.

I was in a central america country one time and saw two men each on a bike carrying a steel beam. Not an steel angle but a beam. We've gotten lazy.

I'm sure some people would but it all comes down to money. Gas is cheap, as long as suv owners can afford to fill up their tanks they'll just keep on driving bigger and heavier SUV's.

And why attack gas guzzlers and SUV's? Who uses more gas, the Prius commuter that drives 100 miles a day or the Hummer owner that drives 10 miles a day because they live close to work? Sure the H2 owner could ride a bike, but they are using less gas than the wasteful Prius owner.

I know people aren't going to like this but I think if gas were heavily taxed and the money used for saving the environment, then people would think twice about how much gas they use by driving hybrids and/or Living closer to their jobs.

I drive an Element which is moderately gas guzzling but didn't have a car for the last few years. I would certainly drive something more efficient as part of a collective effort. I think that we can make a big difference if we act together.

As far as walking - I'm not much for it. I guess I'm too impatient. I do ride my bike to most places that are 10 miles away or less(except in the winter) and I do some run-commuting.

Sure as soon as you figure out a way to get a full sheet of plywood inside a Prius or other small car. Also, I live 12 miles from town so walking to places isn't exactly an option. I tell you what though, you give up your vehicle and walk everywhere and then maybe we will both be covered. Or here is an idea, let's drill in the places in this country that has oil and concentrate on alternative fuel sources.

I would consider changes only after we become serious about drilling for oil and building new refineries here in the USA. We have large amounts of oil, but the tree huggers keep us from getting to it. Drill offshore and in ANWAR. Build new refineries so that the oil can be used.

If you want to walk and drive an econobox, more power to you. I am not willing to do so, and I still have the freedom to make the choice! You do what you feel is right for you, but do not try to impose your views on me!!

if you have the money to buy a big suv then you prolly have the money to pay for gas, so if you have the money to pay for the gas it doesnt matter, unless you are environmentalist
