Does anyone know how to get rid of that stinky smell that dried starfish emit? I've been buying these from Michael's cuz I think they're cool and I wanted to decorate with them, but the odor is so repulsive that I'm afraid to hang them up. Someone suggested soaking them in alcohol, but won't that ruin them?

Yeah, you could find them at Michaels. Any larger craft store. Even a home decorating place might have them. I always thought it was awful to keep a poor starfish slowly dying by drying out. Selfish, I think. I'd rather have a starfish living happily in the ocean than having a dead one sitting on my kitchen table!

Maybe try rinsing them in some water with cut lemons. Lemons are great for getting rid of stinky microwave smells and fishy hands after handling seafood.

i think it will ruin them, because when i put some in water for decoration they ended up smelling even worse and the got all squishy. i dont think you can get rid of the smell.

Try sprinkling baking soda inside (underneath) and let it set, then rinse it off - baking soda works wonders!
Good luck!
