Kimberly --
As others have stated here -- the local theater scene is really unbeatable for a place to get a beginning ! In some of the larger cities -- there will be several to choose from -- find one that gives you "the right feeling" and then --- go for it !!
Be VERY careful with the "acting classes thing" though -- there are a lot of scammers out there that charge major money and give you nothing more than a bunch of garbage input and run around !! Before picking one of THESE -- get some insight into what they offer and what results you can expect from at least a couple of former "students" -- could save you a great deal of time AND money !!
Once you are ready, and you'll know when THAT is-- you'll be able to get the "lowdown" on when and where the auditions are being held for the various jobs that are up for grabs --
ALSO -- use the same caution in choosing an agent as you did with choosing an acting school -- inspect closely -- get personal feedback from the clients OF these places -- the biggest single mistake made by thousands of "would be" actors is choosing agents and agencies that have FAR more bark than bite !!!!
The Best of Luck to YOU in all your endeavors -- and -- here's to seeing you on the silver screen in the not too distant future !!!!!!

Although some actors like Tom Cruise had no experience when he walked into his first role.
How ever, there are many ways to get into acting. First start with Drama classes in your school and mabey join a drama club.
Join a comunity theatre group and get involved with them.
You can even get involved with PBS They are always looking for volenteer actors to help with there comercials.
looking into an agent comes in handy after you have gained some experience.
There is always the independedt actor who finds work themselves through organizations such as theatre Ontario. They list all of the auditions in Canada. I am sure that there are places like this all around the world.
When becoming an actor it is important that you consider what type of roles you want to play and learn your limmits.
all the best with your indevors

Acting classes are a good bet, there are probably some at local theatres in your town. Also, theatre acting really helps you along- it's better to begin in theatre than just jump right into screen auditions. After you've been taking acting classes, go to a theatre audition with a monologue prepared and build your acting experience there. After awhile, a couple years, find yourself an agent who can hook you up with screen auditions (or big name theatre auditions, if that's what you want) and you're set :)

Take as many acting classes as you can. Try out for as many parts as you can. If you are just starting you may have to do local theater stuff.
