First of all, if you are going to give your opinion please be respectful. Saying things that are rude against such groups will get you nowhere.
Okay, I am going to be a freshman in college this coming fall and I still have not made up my mind on whether or not to join a sorority. I talked with the Greek Coucil Reps and such and they seemed like great people. At the school I will be attending, hazing is not a problem as it is strictly forbidden and punishable so I am not worried about that.
My problem is that I have been an avid member of my debate team throughout highschool and I am planning to join the team in college.
Do you think a sorority will take up too much time?
I am also very against drinking/drugs/excessive partying...
help please :)

I think you will have adequate time for both organizations. Historically, Greek Letter Organizations are very time consuming, but with a little bit of time management planning, you should be able to balance both. Good luck!

Well sororities are deffinitly well know for drinking etc. there will absolutely be that. However a sorority does look great on a resume and your transcripts. I think you just need to ask yourself are you a loner or are you a person who likes to be apart of a group. In a sorority you have to be a part of a group and sometimes they can make you feel obligated to do things you don't want to. i think you should try to talk to a past sorority member and alumni, and really ask them what their true experience was like, and tell them your concerns and see what they have to say to your concerns based on their own experience. You college will have a list of alumni just ask. Good luck and do what is best for you

You should be able to join the debate team as well. Some sororities might even require you to be a part of another university organization. People in Greek life have jobs and are involved in other activities....it should not be a problem.

i guess the best thing to do would be to check them out when you get there. many do a lot of service work but school always comes first. good luck in college.
