It just seems that I can't go out the door without running into one of those people, either in traffic or at the malls. Have any of you felt the same way?

No, it most definitely is not just your imagination. It's a reality. It's pretty much the break-down of the family unit; the "family" mentality and way of life. We have an entire global generation( I'm speaking of 1st world countries and to a lesser extent 2nd, 3rd world countries... ) that is being raised without the need for stronger, tighter, more meaningful relationships; true friendships. This leads to colder people. We just don't need to be as respectful and considerate of one another anymore because now and forever we have all the mechanical and technological distraction in the world to keep us sedated and distracted.

In a way, it is no longer forced upon us. Yeah, it's more accurate to say it that way...

I am old enough to clearly remember what it was like to interact with people on a daily basis without owning a cell-phone or computer. Life was just fine. In fact it was great. You were less inclined to take for granted the blessing of just meeting up and having fun with your framily and circle of friends. Friendships, social interaction was somehow much more "real", more "genuine".

Of course this is not to say that it can't or doesn't exist anymore. It's just that technology and materialism (bling $$$) has taken up the space in our psyche; ie: our soul, our spirit, our mind. Much more so than what I remember in my childhood, teens and 20's.

I cannot lie. I have a relationship with my cell-phone. But I still remember how fun it was to try to set things up and hook up with people using the pay-phone. I don't have an mp3 player but I love and appreciate the fact that it exists and I can go out and get one. But I still remember what it's like for me and all my friends to bring home a new record, unwrap it and smell the album folder and then the scent of the vinyl itself. It was monumental. I had entered a whole new world before I even put the needle on. (by the way, you can still do these things, and I'd advise you to. Go to a garage sale, buy a cheap old record player and then go look up AC/DC's Back in Black ;-) or Meet the Beatles. On vinyl of course.

It's the most ironic thing I've ever encountered in my existence. The internet and cell-phone are devices that allows us to connect with each other like never before. Yet, all I've seen and felt was more of a disconnect between people. Kids are growing up getting so much of the social skills over the internet and gaming, and... it's f'ing horrible. What safer place on Earth can you hone your skills for being rude, hostile and obnoxious??? This is how our society, our next generation is growing up and consider that knowing just how bad people are now that weren't raised this way.

It's not your imagination. Individuals are getting worse and worse. I hope you have a few good, true, geniune souls as friends. If you do, then you are particular blessed. I have many so-called friends but only 1 or 2 that I consider to be true friends and great people. If not for them then I'd (in all probability) be just another soulless arrogant a**hole being rude, hostile and obnoxious...

I want to move to a country where the population on average watches less t.v., spends a bit less time on the computer and uses the cell-phone more as a fashion accessory and utility than the "primary" means of having conversation with people.

My advice to you would be to travel. Spend some time in another country, another culture, even if it's just for a week or two, so you can have a new, hopefully better perspective on people and life.

Good luck, keep your chin up and try to blank out the a-holes tthat cross your path.

there are days when i run into one jerk after another. i get pissed off but, i let it go for the most part. not that i condone this behavior but, with all thats happening in the world today ie, war, child abuse, drugs, disease, teen pregnancy, health care, education, etc. and so much technology that one can't get any peace, it's no wonder people are so angry. if everyone learned to relax and realize that life's to short to be in such a hurry or angry all the time, and if we all learned to show random acts of kindness,we'd be a much happier people.
simple and stupid to some but everything is relative.

I think you need to look at yourself - I don't meet any hostile or obnoxious people in my daily life. Maybe you are the common denominator that brings about these incidents.
