How do you reconcile the xth version of the afterlife with different, conflicting versions of other religions? I suppose you believe your religion is the only real, True Religion. Sure. Just like all the others do too.

Fact: the human race has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

Fact: the concepts of an afterlife, of gods, spirits, etc. have only been around for a few millenia.

Fact: these concepts were invented and promulgated by ignorant barbarians as an attempt to explain the world around them, before there was a such thing as science or epistemology.

Fact: the xth religion is only a couple millenia old, one of many religions that came before it and have come since.

Fact: most of the books of the bible were written by people who were never there, as second- or third-hand accounts decades or even centuries after the events they claim to tell about.

Fact: the books of the bible have been heavily edited over the centuries, with passages or even whole books being re-written or omitted to fit the theological and political climates of the time.

Fact: the books of the bible have also been subject to extensive errors, misinterpretations, and differences of opinion in interpretation as they are translated from one language to another and from that to yet another language.

Knowing all this, how can yours or ANY religion be viewed as anything BUT the invention of men? I know this may not be what you want to hear, and I doubt I'll do much harm to your faith; faith is remarkably impervious to reason. But we atheists are nothing like what the church leaders are fond of charicaturing us as. We are freethinking individuals who are able to see the Big Picture without the blinders of religion. We do not live in despair, quite the contrary; freethought is incredibly refreshing, liberating, and empowering. We are not nihilists, but lovers of life who see it as all the more precious _because_ there's no eternal afterlife. We do not need the bribe of heaven or the threat of hell to be good people, we believe in being good for its own sake. Through science and reason, we know more about the true nature of the world we live in than your religion could ever hope to offer.

I'd ask you to give freethought a try, but I realize that's probably asking too much for a True Believer. So I'll only ask that you consider learning more about atheists and atheism, and setting aside any preconceived notions you may have about them--because those notions are almost certainly wrong. We are not your enemy. Our quarrel is with irrationality, wishful thinking, superstitions, intellectual dishonesty, and all other forms of thinking that keep mankind mired in darkness, ignorance and hate.

The Earth and the Solar System are predicted to exist as they are for another few billion years. Our generation will be long vanished before anything like the end of the world arrives. But science is trying to beat the end of the world. If scientific knowledge continues to advance at the current pace, in 500 or 1000 years, human beings will be so technologically advanced to be able to live indefinitely and to be able to migrate to out of space, where it's safer than staying on Earth!

Why would I be more scared today than any other day? The way I see it, every single day has the chance to be my last, whether it's the apocalypse or a drunk driver. So, never leave anything too long, it may be too late by the time you get to it. But is that scary? From any point of view, it could be scary, a relief, motivational, just about any emotion under the sun. So I'm going to pick a more positive one because, hey, we only live once right?

read the Left Behind Series. you don't have to be religious to enjoy these novels about end times but I think you will find them very hard to put down and very intriguing. I really think all of you should at least read the first in the series, it is an eye opener to just think about. I think it is called Left Behind and you can find it on ebay or amazon.com for next to nothing. I bet you get hooked and yes, you should be afraid. If you know God on a personal level, forget the afraid but it isn't going to be fun, most Christians lives aren't fun, but have a lot of suffering in learning and being molded into the image of Christ. That probably sounds like huey to a lot of you, but read those books. I agree that you can't predict when the end will come, not at all for the Bible also says the end will come "like a thief in the night" but when you read Left Behind and compare it to our present day politics and all, it is truly an eye opener. My dad is 92 and he said they have been predicting the end of the world all of his life. But he is a full on Christian so ????no worry, just an interesting fact you might want to include. HERE IS A FUN EXAMPLE, RAPTURE MEANS AT ONE POINT GOD WILL TAKE BELIEVERS RIGHT TO HEAVEN AND IN THE FIRST BOOK THEY ARE FLYING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN PEOPLE'S CLOHTES ARE THERE, BUT THEIR BODIES ARE GONE AND SO IS THE PILOTS ????? VERY INTERESTING WHEN YOU CONSIDER THESE PEOPLE BEING RAPTURED AND HOW IT AFFECTS LIFE: POLICE OFFICERS, BUS DRIVERS, AMBULANCE DRIVERS, DR'S IN SURGERY, AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS, so whether you believe in it or not, it does make an interesting even sci fi type thing.

Intellectually - No. Emotionally - OK, maybe a little!!! LOL ... but I was born guilty!!! The only real reason to feel scared would be if you are harboring unresolved guilt over something or other and are afraid of being judged and found wanting. If this is the case, change course!!

National Geographic had a special about Judgement Day.?!?!
What...did they send a staff photographer to film the rapture?
Calm down, it isn't going to be as bad as that.
Every day, in Iraq, and every big city, it's worse for others than that special you saw. Coun't your Blessings!

Are you sure it wasn't the 700 club, not Nat.Geo.?

People have been taking extreme measures (like going on top of mountains because they think the world is going to end in a flood, for example) because they randomly think the world is going to end. Then everything that happens is like evidence that the world is going to end. Don't listen to all that. None of them have been right so far in our entire history.
I really don' t think there's anything to be afraid of. I mean, if we all get wiped out, who cares? Nobody is going to live anyways, so what's the matter if we all get wiped out? Nothing will happen except for some tragic disaster. We won't be there after the storm, so...what?

If judgement day comes you should not be scared. Have hope and peace in your heart and you will truly be seen for what you are, for if it is going to come, that is the purpose of it.
