Hi I have a pet red tail boa and he's been acting strange the past couple of days. He won't eat but that may be because he's int he shedding process. Well I just now casually looked over at his cage and noticed his head was under the water and I freaked out. I opened his caged and touched him and he started moving around. I pulled his head out of the water and he was breathing fine and acting normal. I just don't understand why his head would be underwater in the firt place and about how long can he be underwater before I should get worried? HELP!

Ha ha a suicidal boa! He's fine he is probably just trying to soak before he starts to shed. put him in warm water for a few minutes he might freak a little at first but then he'll love it. Not only that but with the skin being hydrated he will shed more easily.

Just a side note- when he has his head under water it's a perfect time to check for mites.
