i have a chiauoia mix. he will play catch with you but when he brings it back he drops it just so i can't get it. i tried to give him a treat but that just makes it worse.

If he doesn't make any effort to bring it to you, then don't make any effort to pick it up. I'm super pregnant and can't bend over to pick up the ball when I play catch with my border collie/lab so she learned if she doesn't put it in my lap, then its game over.

Just a training problem, I'm sure, but if it aggravates you so much, I'd find a new game. Maybe tug of war with a sock, or let's go chase the ducks by the creek? Or how about sit still for a minute--(you're hiding treats here, use your imagination)----FIND THAT TREAT!

First off its CHIHUAHUA.
Don't worry a lot of people get that wrong.
He wants you to throw it again for he can fetch it..
Because obviously that's the point of playing fetch with a dog.
If you've played fetch with him before and you didn't play it the way YOU wanted him to, then most likely he'll play the way you playerd the 1st time.

Yikes sounds like someone's a bit impatient. I'm hoping this impatience doesn't turn into abusing this poor animal. Because you have to take a few steps it aggravates you enough to add that many exclamation points?
Sounds to me like he's just trying to get you to get off your butt and get some exercise!!! Smart doggie!
