Priority is to be able to help others and I am very serious in answering Qs in family/friend/divorce/marriage that kind of categories. In other categories or Qs, I would see if how the Questioners posted the Qs.

I did something for a Form 3 dropout and by given him a chance to work in an office, he has further improved himself cos he is now a junior technician for another company. I am just wondering if not, would he still be another VCD sellers!?!?!

Maria, my story is not that fantastic but you are really very strong to be able to help. "Quote - is better to be the hand that give rather than receive"

Anyway, as for me... I was here to find out some information on martial arts initially... but I bumped into the R&S (Religion and Spirituality) section and I got hooked into it. It was only later that I met some Malaysians in there and decided to take a peek into this section...
PEEKABOO... I thought I was dreaming, but this place was so alive! It wasn't solely a TRAVEL section (as some would love to emphasize on, but a favorite hangout with all kinds of Malaysians from around the world... I mean, LITERALLY!).
That was when I got hooked into Y/A. Occassionally taking a peek into other sections like Mental Health and Fitness (they are my profession actually)... I'm an instructor for Taekwondo with over 17 years of experience and was the trainer for National/World record holders in Muay Thai Kickboxing in Malaysia. You can check out my students who are currently in the Malaysia Book of Records and making their way through Guiness for several feats.
What motivates them? What is the secret behind all their achievements? My students keep breaking records after records for at least 2-3 times a year. They are also good mix of all different races and genders by the way (hardly any Thais that I know of LOL)... and they are all Malaysia Boleh people (as the Malays would call them "mesra alam" people) :-) ---Its the things that I grew up with that makes me who I am today and being able to share with my students this far... and to keep pushing forward, to the very limit of our own capacity and NEVER GIVE UP!
In Yahoo Answers, I guess the most memorable person I had a share of experience with is with Robin from the R&S. Here is a link to our discussion and till today we're good friends :-)

On another question (which is very heartening for me), is on a person who is on HIV medication dependent (and with all my heart, I WISH I could do something more to help him as I can relate with him through my personal experience teaching meditation to HIV patients in Thailand... in some ways I feel that I'm blessed to be able to at least answer to this guy in his request):

As a matter of fact some of the things I've posted in my blog site is related to the cases that I've been working on through Yahoo Answers. Some of them didn't deserve to be chosen as Best Answer but I felt that there was more to be done as I felt a certain 'void' despite the answer that I had given to them was considered the 'best', so I continued a personal discussion through my blog post... And guess what? People just keep coming back!
I used to work with rehabilitating drug addicts, hardcore criminals and other kinds of HUMAN BEINGS who are willing to change too, while I was a monk. Many of these people were neglected and treated lower than animals by the so-called loving society we live in today.
I can't help it but to feel sorry for some of them at times, and these people really touched my heart as I sit and ponder about how lucky I am and others who are not in their shoes. This inspired me to continue my effort to work on people who are genuine and sincere enough to stand on their own feet and walk on the right path.
I also hope that some of you would take my experience into consideration as to why I am the person I am today and why I view things at a certain angle and also why I wouldn't want to 'change'. Just as in Trustee's post, I had mentioned that I live by the motto of "NEVER GIVE UP". Its the spirit that keeps me going, on and on. Its the courage that lets me face at whatsoever consequences I may encounter along the way.
I leave it to your discretion to see how I've been helping others in the past and how I will continue to do so in the future. I guess we are all related to one another in some way and we are all helping one another by being a part of Yahoo Answers here.
Lastly, I am also very grateful to both my parents and especially my teachers whom I am totally devoted to. They are my guiding lights in this world of darkness... :-)

I am basically here for both reasons but sometimes it really depends on the queestion.
I do the Family and Relations more than travel in YA! But I still come straight into this catagory cos I wanted to help those who asked for information about Malaysia. I did asked questions too and I was glad that you guys out there did not tekan me. I posted a question about 2 weeks ago asking for locations of Dunkin Donut. Guessed what.. .. All the answers were correct!!
As for family & relationship, seems like i got more of my 10 points from that section. Some have even included me into the list.
Let's us all continue to have fun in here and help those who needed our help with REAL information.
Cheers!!

I try to answer truthfully and with as good an answer as I can when its called for...when the question is serious and requires a serious answer...
if its a crazy question not to be taken seriously then I have fun with it...
sometimes people get upset with my answer but then....they dont know where I live so Im okay with that....lol
I helped a lady(a firend) to see clearly about some problem areas in her life. I gave her a different point of view, a different way of looking at things. She said I opened her eyes when before they were closed due to family tradition and culture. She seems happy in that respect and Im glad I could help her.

I've found this section a long time ago through my sister when we screwed our big sister's washing machine and she went to Yahoo Answer to ask what went wrong and what to do to fix it.
Result : We end up spending a lot of cash to fix it haha...
By the way, a few months ago i have problems with my pc and went to yahoo search and type the problem. A question similar to it came up from Yahoo Answer and that's when i actually started. I answer and ask questions at Computer & Internet section. My job is all about computer so this really help and i can help others with my so-so knowledge in computer. At the same time i'm having fun too answering some fun questions.
Real life - i help a lot of people in real life in many things but i just don't know how it makes differences in their life, they never told and i never ask.

Originally joined YA because I needed answers. But now I also look for questions that I can help answer cos it's good to share.
As for real life, I do some community projects which I guess does make a difference in people's lives - mostly do volunteer work at animal shelters, join the occasional blood donation campaign etc. But mostly I think it makes a difference in MY life, cos it makes me realize how fortunate I am, and it feels rewarding everytime I know I helped someone.

I joined because I wanted to help people. I am an ESL preschool teacher in Japan (for 10 years) and at first I answered questions about ESL, preschool and Japan, but I am having a lot of fun doing it too! I have also enjoyed asking questions and getting answers or at least clues to problems I have had in the past and have still wondered about. I think I am definately more hooked on YA than I have been hooked on anything else in my whole life!

I joined for both reasons really, but mostly to help others. Yes in fact I helped several people over come their addictions. Another was giving up on life because of being abused. another had who tried to commit suicide several times. A person who had become depressed and was on a self destructive path, we talked alot, I counseled her but also was a friend to her. We are now good friends and I am glad to say that she is no longer depressed and views life differently, she is happy with herself and very content in her life now. She contributes her change of view to my help and kindness. However I contribute her change to herself, her determination and the amount of work she put in and a willingness to admit something was wrong and that she needed help. She also made alot of choices and stuck to making that change even though sometimes it was very hard to do. Nobody can help a person until there ready to be helped and are willing to work hard at it and put in the time.

I stumbled on to Y!A coz I needed answers for my kid's schoolwork. I posted it in the wrong category and I received no answers! Then I discovered that I could actually have a great time on Polls & Survey, as well as Jokes & Riddles. But, on other categories, I'm usually serious with my answers, even here.
I hope I was of help to somebody ..

I joined to help people. I was a peer counselor in high school and have tried to make myself available to people all throughout my life. My brother committed suicide when he was 16 (I was 10), and I always wondered if he would still be here if he had had someone trustworthy to talk to. So, I try to be that person just in case I could help someone in his position. What about you?

At first, I was the one who need help. And somebody answers my question with great patience and details.
This, in return make me want to help others.
I help a first time traveller on Airasia, who is gonna travel with children. I frequently fly with my children via Airasia, so that might be one of my food of knowledge. And I'll be happy to help.
