A favourite of mine, I remember it from the K Tel album
Black water haddie lived back in the swamp
Where the strange green reptiles crawl
Snakes hang thick from the cypress trees
Like sausage on a smoke house wall
Now the swamp is alive with a thousand eyes
and all of em watching you
Stay of the track of haddies shack
In the back of the black Bayou
Way down the road from haddies shack
Lay a sleepy little okachoga town
Talk of swamp witch haddy
Locked you in when the sun go down!
Now, rumors of what she done,
and rumors of what she do
Kept folks off the track, of haddies shack
In the back of the black bayou.
One day brought the rain, the rain stayed on
And the swamp water overflowed
Skeeters and the feaer grabbed the town like a fist!
Doc Jackson was the first to go.
Now some said the plague was brought by haddy
There was talk of a hanging too
But the talk got shackled,
By the howls and the cackles
From the back of the black bayou
Early next morn between dark and dawn
When shadows filled the sky
There came an unseen caller
To the town where, hope'd run dry
In the square there was found
A big black round, Vat full of gurgling brew
Whispering sounds as the folks gatherred round
It came from the black Bayou!
Well there aint much pride
When you're trapped inside a slowly sinking ship.
They scooped up the liquid, deep and green
And the whole town took a sip...
Then the very next day the fever went away
And the skies again were blue
Let's thank old haddy for saving our town
We'll fetch her from the black bayou!
pause
Party of ten of the town's best men
Headed for haddy's shack
They said "Swamp witch magic was useful and good"
and they gonna bring haddy back.
Never found haddy, never found her shack
And they never made a trip back in
There was a parchment note
They found tacked to a stump
Said "Don't come lookin again!"

"Marie Leveax" by Bobby Bare, with his son doing the scream. I have that as the ringtone for my ex, so when the phone screams, i know it will be a bad conversation. Here are the Lyrics
Down in Louisiana where the black trees grow lives a voodoo lady named Marie Leveau
She got a black cat tooth and a mojo bone and anyone wouldn't leave her alone
She go (greeeeeee) another man done gone
She lives in a swamp in a hollow log with a one eyed snake and a three legged dog
She got a bent bony body and stringy hair
And if she ever seen you all messin' round there
She go (greeeeeee) another man done gone
And then one night when the moon was black into the swamp come Handsome Jack
A no good man like you all know when he was lookin' around for Marie Leveau
He said Marie Leveau you lovely witch gimme little charm that'll make me rich
Gimme million dollars and I tell you what I'll do this very night I'm gonna marry you
And it'll be ummmmmmm another man done gone
So Marie done some magic and she shook a little sand
Download MP3's
Made a million dollars and she put it in his hands
Then she giggled and she wiggled and she said hey hey
I'm gettin' ready for my weddin' day
But ol' Handsome Jack he said goodbye Marie
You're too damn ugly for a rich man like me
Then Marie started numblin' her fangs started gnashin'
Her body started tremblin' and her eyes started flashin'
And she went (greeeeeee) another man done gone
So if you ever get down where the black trees grow
And meet a voodoo lady named Marie Leveau
If she ever asks you to make her your wife
Man you better stay with her for the rest of your life
Or it'll be (oheeeeeee) another man done gone

Can't remember if it was Bobby Bare or Roger Miller, but I know the song was Marie Lavoux (check spelling). Goto www.roughstock.com and goto the link cowpie song corral. They have every country singer, and every song they ever sang. The also have a search engine where you type in a lyric or title, and it gives you the best matches on a highest to lowest percentage scale. It gives lyrics, tabs, and chords also. Hope this helps ya some, good luck. Take care, and may God Bless.

Marie Laveaux was by Bobby Bare. You might be also thinking of the song he sang with his son, Bobby Bare, Jr. Daddy What If. I remember the intro of that song, he talks about how "years from now, he and all his friends are going to be sitting around stoned, saying 'Look what the old man made me do.'"

I think you're talking about "Marie Labeau" by Bobby Bear. It might be called "Another man dun Gone" where a handsome man tells Marie if She"ll make a million dollars for him he'll marry her. She does and he says "you're too damned ugly for a rich man like me" Is that the one you mean, heard it again just the other day for the first time in years.
