why is jesus depicted as a white man if he came from the middle east where there were no whites 3000 yrs ago?

Since the Bible contains no description of what Jesus looked like artist have tended to paint a Jesus that looks somewhat like they do.

Jesus is Lord of all, not just the whites, or just the blacks, etc. Too many people would have a problem if He wasn't of their race, and since the answer is unimportant, the Bible is silent on the matter.

Because most of the artists in the centuries following his death and resurrection had no real sense of what semitic people looked like. One has to add to that a lack of courage in depicting Jesus with a "Jewish" face, given the depth of anti-semitism in that day. Sort of a Middle Ages version of political correctness.
There were whites throughout that area during his lifetime. The semitic people (Arab and Jew) are considered to be Caucasian. Since Jesus was from Gallilee, and from the family line of the tribes of Jesse and David, he was white.
However, the man who history attributes as carrying his cross part of the way to Golgatha was a black man: Simon of Cyrene.

It was a little closer to 2000 years ago, but you're right. He was certainly not Caucasian. He probably looked a lot like the Arabs who live in that region today. The depictions we see now are based on European artists' conceptions of Him centuries ago.

I have seen paintings that portrayed Jesus more Caucasian, more Middle-Eastern, and possibly African, (the skin being much darker in that painting). I think it is an artists interpretation of what he/she believes Jesus looks like.

While he was not, as I have seen him depicted, a blond, blue eyed Northern European, he was most certainly of Semitic stock and therefore, by the standards of most the people where I'm from (Texas), he was most certainly "white."

Jesus was a Jew. Blacks were in Africa and Australia. Yellows were in Asia, outside the middle east. American Indians were in North & South America. Whites (caucasans) were in Europe, North Africa, India, and the Middle East.

I have studied this too and it was written from the tribes of old that saw him that they said he was of fair skin, but this doesnt mean he was white...some of the middle east has people of fairer skin I believe this is why...

Its christianity mate, its all false, so dont get yourself worked up about it :) This is one of the largest factors PROVING that the Bible, and christanity is a load of bollocks. Hurrah for logic, down with religion :D
