if a game requires a 2.8 Ghz cpu, will 2.0 or 2.4 Ghz dual core do the job? between cache and Fbs, which one effect more on speed of the cpu?

If it is a core 2 duo then the 2.0 or 2.4 is per core, which means the cpu runs at a total of 4.0 or 4.8ghz. If its a pentium D cpu then the 2.0 or 2.4 ghz is the total speed of the cpu (I dont know if they even make P Ds that slow). But no matter if it is pentium d or core 2 duo it will run much better then a single core cpu.

Yes a 2.4 dual core is much faster than a 3 Ghz single core. That is because a 2.4 has a theoretical limit of a 4.8 Ghz single core processor.

Both the cache and the fbs equally effect the speed of a cpu. For the cache the size and the speed are the factors involved. The effective speed will the the speed of the slower of the two.

The situation is comparable to the world wide web. If the server that you are downloading from is connected to the web by a dial up connection (2 KB/s) you will not get a good download speed regardless of the bandwidth of your connection. The effective rate of data transfer is the rate of the slower connection.

To get a better idea of the working of the fsb take a look at this site..

The dual core is for running different programs on each core. I would imagine that it wouldn't work, but I do not have a dual core processor. You should try it. It will most likely work on the 3.0 as long as you meet the requirements.

yea its much faster. clock speed no longer matters wen it comes to choosing a processor. a dual core processor is so much faster, u will notice a considerable diffrence. the person above me is kinda right, it is 2, 2 ghz cores so it should run @ 4 ghz, but it doesnt, it hard 2 explain.

A 2.4 Dual core will operate your computer more effeicently than a 3.0 single core. Not faster, however...the better effeicency does make it...well faster. :)
