When you upload, you are transferring data in the form of web pages, images, css files, etc. When someone visits your site each page is downloaded to their browser -- that is data transfer also. All things moved either up are down on a website is data and that includes emails.

So you want some amount of data transfer included in your hosting plan. Those that charge rates based stricly on transfer can get expensive fast.

Bandwidth on the other hand has to do with how fast that data can be transferred.
