In my opinion, it would be difficult to find a less suitable one. Apart from Iraq and Afghanistan and his slavish support for the Saudi dictatorship, can a man who can afforf a £3.6 million house, be able to talk with people who've been homeless for nearly 60 years?
My nomination is Jean- Bertrand Aristide, the former president of Haiti, who was kidnapped in a US-backed coup and exiled to South Africa. The brief for the Envoy job mentions "development", and Aristide made this his priority, concentrating on education for the poor. Aristide is also an ex-priest, sacked by right-wing elements in the Catholic Church. The Middle East is the Holy Land, whose tendency towards religious sectarianism has baffled outsiders since Pontius Pilate. Aristide's religious background should be useful.

For the Middle East, there's nobody more qualified except possibly Jimmy Carter but he's way too old to handle it without it killing him. The native delegates are all from the upper/ruling classes so would be uncomfortable with a bureaucrat and the sense of a former leader of a great nation taking this sort of thing on when there is no real need to lends credibility and a sense of importance. Astride has a very corrupt reputation to boot so that certainly would not go over well. Trust is a big issue in diplomacy.

The Blair appointment as an envoy is but another example of the arrogant US/British stance in the region. In virtually all the Middle East media his appointment was effectively trashed so once again nobody gave a damn about what the people in the region wanted but are forced to deal with Blair.

Blair and Britain are just as quilty as the US for the century long atrocities that have been visited upon the peoples of the region.

Blairs total support of all the vile murdering right wing dictators in the region combined with Blairs horrid one sided view of the Palestinian/Israeli issue is why his appointment is being ridiculed in the region.

You blew it when you proposed that MENTALLY ILL (a fact !!!) idiot Aristide who invented the killing method of soaking a tire in gas ,putting it around a person and lighting it.

THE LAST THING THE REGION NEEDS IS ANYONE WITH A RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND !!!!

So ludicrous is your post I suspect it is you sharing with us your sense of humour.

Aristide's election "win" was even more questionable than George Bush's first win! over 91% of the vote, total control of the media, the judiciary.... get the picture?

Blair may not be the best choice for the peace envoy role, granted. This is due more to his support for the Iraq War, I don't agree Afghanistan is a mistake.

The best possible person for the job IMHO would have been Kofi Annan.

the Saudi Royalty is the tie that binds..

The Sunnis..are 85% of Islam..and if you think real hard..maybe you can point out a Sunni Country..where we aren't doing fine and supporting the Gov't..

It's kind of like saying all Democrats are represented by
the Posters here..it is a falsehood..

we get along..and are targeted by extremists..just like the average internet clown..regular people are insulated and not charged..it's the way it is..even in the MidEast..until the
