I personally can't eat something that has fallen on the floor. Gross. That being said. I heard of a recent study where they showed that it could be the 30 or the 60 second rule. That it takes a lot longer than we think for something to become contaminated.

Yeah 5 second rule rocks! and if it has been on the floor for more than 5 seconds... just pick it up, drop it again and the timer starts over!

You know they actually tested that rule on Mythbusters. It's totally untrue. You get the same amount of bacteria on it. For me though, I guess it depends on whether or not I really like the food. If it's something I really like, I'll pick it up and eat it anyway and just risk the forthcoming illness!

That 5 second rule can stick it! I'll eat something off the floor, don't bother me! Like you said, pick off the hair, and blow on it!
(Watch, this answer will have boat loads of thumbs down!!)

i actually have my own variation of the 5 second rule. i give the food 10 seconds if it falls on a sanitized place like my house. otherwise i give the 5 second rule everywhere except on streets bathrooms and any other place i think is disgusting where they gewt the 0 second rule

Nope, the fastest dog gets a free meal, and it doesn't take anywhere near 5 seconds.

Yes, the 5 second rule is in effect in my house.
I throw it away if I see cat hairs on it, however.
