What is your defention of 'cool people' ?
There are certain areas where people meet.
Leidseplein is one. Rembrandtsplein is another.
And there are numerous places with "hang out" capability.
A lot depends on your taste in music as well, for the music played in the bar / cafe determines the crowd.
