The NFL has a pension problem. Many veterans cannot get or pay for health insurance, and many injuries they recieved while playing have left them with outstanding medical bills and worsened medical conditions. Could it benefit players, past and present, to impose a 2% tax on their salaries (like social security, before President Carter screwed it up) in order to give them a respectable pension? As we all know, past players did not recieve the salaries today's players are receiving.

Is it possible to create a relief act (like what military servicemen pay into in case they fall on hard times...at least 1$ per paycheck) by charging NFL players a minor 2% tax on their yearly salaries in order to help players of the past, present, and future out with medical bills due to life altering on-the-field injuries ? A program like social security (before Jimmy Carter allowed the government to siphon funds out of) that would make money as time went on (like a savings account)? Could this be an answer to the woes of past NFL players who have suffered due to injuries such as paralysis, concussion, and injuries that have worsened with time?
