Depends who you ask. Some people viewed him as a hero who helped support the socialist government in Guatamala (which was trying to be overthrown by a CIA sponsered coup). The CIA won this action in Guatamala, making Ernesto "Ché" Guevara believe the US was an imperialistic power who were always going to exploit South Americans.
Ché also took part in the Cuban revolution, and became close friends with Castro. He also tried to make Panama, The Dominican Republic the Congo and Bolivia have Socialist revolutions, and was a strong supporter of North Vietnam.
Many people (especially Americans) view him to be a terrorist and downright evil, because he supported socialism and Marxism - the philosophies of the US' enemy, the USSR, as well as for his support of communist North Vietnam. He played a key role in the Cuban missile crisis, and stated that had the missiles been under Cuban control (and not Soviet) they would have been launched against US cities.
Still others say he was a hero who helped overthrow corrupt puppet regimes in the name of marxism and the people. He was (and still is) immensely popular in South America, and Cuba especially. His vehement anti US sentiment has also endeared him to many, especially those at the blunt end of US 'intervention' in their country - these people are often prepared to ignore his shortcomings, that of killing his oponents, in the light of the greater image of his revolutionary zeal.

Che was a true product of his time and the world he grew up in. People here in the states have no clue just how terrible life was for south and central Americans..and in a lot of place it still is...most places. There was no peace, no prosperity...no law that the thugocracies that ruled there needed to respect. Sadly, these thugocracies were fully supported by a series of US governments...we shouldn't have done that, but we did and that's why they don't care for us. But that's another story. People like Che wanted things better....maybe they embraced 'communism', hoping to modify the worst of it so there could be some vestige of justice in their world....in the end Che and Castro failed....they got in bed with the communist world and it crushed them. Che, like all people who want radical change was a flawed person...no doubt, but there are millions who were willing to overlook that because he stood for 'better'....others, like many Americans who never experianced the terror of these regimes know him only as a communist...that alone is enough for his reputation to be smeared. Now he's dead....but guess what...the thugocracies are alive and well...which means there will be more 'Ches'..count on it!

He was a Cuban communist revolutionary who is popular among the leftists in this country for his support of the common man. He was probably responsible for at least as many deaths as have died in Iraq, but since he was fighting on behalf of communism, all is forgiven and he's now treated like a deity in some camps.

I think that's true of most revolutionaries. King George wasn't too fond of George Washington, either.
But it needs to be said that Che was notoriously brutal, and it's been documented that he personally murdered hundreds of Cubans who didn't support his cause. Their only crime was being inconvenient.
Then, of course, leftists make movies telling only part of his story, and so we see why some love him and others hate him.

Same old problem. One man's terrorist is anothers freedom fighter. To the poor and repressed he is a hero but to the rich and friends of U.S. he was a threat to their wealth and control of resources so had to be eliminated. Nothing changes.

He was a silly rich kid who tried to inspire class warfare. He appeals to lots of college-age kids who get their heads full of leftist idiocy.
Most kids outgrow such notions when they become self-sufficient.
Che never grew out of it. He became a criminal and was executed.
