L.A. Confidential,(russel crowes breakout role)also stars kevin spacey very good cop drama
Usual Suspects, if you have not seen it,you have not lived.
possible best screenplay of last 20 years.
American History X,edward nortons best acting,revolves around racism and social morays, explicit scenes though.
Knights Tale,a fun movie with heath ledger as an aspiring knight. great movie for all ages.

Life is Beautiful ... easily one of the best movies ever made, in my opinion. It's an Italian movie, so there are subtitles, but it is guaranteed to move you.

If you haven't seen them yet, BABEL or PAN'S LABYRINTH are good bets. And if you're feeling really adventurous (and you're sure the kids are asleep), try John Cameron Mitchell's SHORTBUS.

dead silence, if you like a good scare. it has no swearing whatsoever, no sex scenes, and it pulls an R-rating, but i suggest renting the unrated version, theres more to the plot.
