OK. Some of those people have lost everything and have been completely wiped out; their lives ruined. This is the worst kind of luck that I would not wish on any decent person. But the fact is, you make your own luck in this world and if you fail to insure your property because you want the money for something else, then that is a chosen path and you have no right to expect anybody else to bail you out. I make sacrifices to insure my property and I resent any suggestion that my hard-earned money should be spent on what, frankly, is sheer fecklessness.

I feel very strongly about this. I have to pay building and contents Insurance to make sure I'm covered in case anything untoward happens, and I feel very angry about idiots who don't bother. Same goes for people who drive around without insurance. They don't think about others who have to suffer loss if there's an accident.

no way if the government do that then where do you draw the line . what is to stop others who have say a fire or a burst water tank but have no insurance going to the government and saying " well if you paid for them you should pay for me"
more worrying what if it makes some people stop paying their insurance. makes them a danger to the rest of us doesnt it.

Surely that kind of flooding is classed as "an act of God" so no-one is covered?

I don't think so...
I think our government should fork more out
If they can't cover it without raising taxes then they should temporarily stop giving 'aid' to other countries until our own problem is sorted.
