1. how old were you when you got your first period?
I believe I was 11 or 12. I'm not exactly sure... but it was around that age.

2. who did you tell right away, or did you keep it to yourself?
Well, when I first started I was at my best friends house with some other friends. All of a sudden, as I was laying on the bed I just got extremely itchy. First thought: Wtf?! lol. I had no idea what was going on down there, so I went to the bathroom and noticed my panties were eww. I told my best friend's mom, and she gave me a pad. So, the next morning, I went home. Aha.. I still remember this. I remember my mom and older sister jumping up and down with me "you're becoming a woman! you're becoming a woman!". I personally didn't know what was so exciting about that, but that memory makes me laugh!

3. did you start out with pads or tampons?
I started using pads..and I did until I was about 14. I was in Panama City with my family, and I was sitting on the beach, I looked down, and realized my period had come. Devastated, I went up to our condo, and my sister gave me a tampon. I read the directions, and tried the positions they suggested and had no idea what I was doing wrong. I couldn't get it in right! So, my mom said to go in the bedroom, lock the door, lay down on the bed with a towel and try it that way. I guess because I was more relaxed it went right in! And ever since then, I've been using tampons.. as well as pads. Just for the extra protection :)

4. did you ever have an embarassing leak?
Many, many times in middle school. Especially since I was still learning the process of when to change my pads. They filled up quicker than I thought they would, so there were many times I'd end up with spots on my pants. But oh my, I have one embarassing story of a friend in middle school. Our class was standing in line in the hall, and I remember she had her hands over her crotch area, and she moved them just a little and I noticed that she had completely bled through her pants! I felt embarassed enough for the both of us!!

5. which do you prefer, pads or tampons and why?
I personally like both. I don't know how girls just use tampons. When they get too full, they leak...so I use a pad as well for that situation. Makes me feel more comfortable, and if I can't change my tampon when it needs it right away, there's always the pad!

6. what are your favorite brands for feminine hygiene products?
I have been using Kotex tampons and StayFree pads for years now. I have tried Tampax and hate them, the tampons don't absorb enough. Tampax Pearl's are a joke to me because they don't offer enough absorbtion either! Playtex is even a bigger joke for the same reason as the Pearl's... but this is just me and my body. I'm sure other girls use them just fine, but that's my personal preference! :)

1. how old were you when you got your first period? I was 12 - sitting at home late at night watching the Arsenio Hall show, lol

2. who did you tell right away, or did you keep it to yourself? I told my mom because I didn't have any pads - she went a bit crazy like the mom from Carrie. Fun times :(

3. did you start out with pads or tampons? Pads and I stuck with pads... had a close friend get hospitalized by toxic shock. I know it is rare, but it kind of scarred me for life I think!

4. did you ever have an embarassing leak?
Yup in 7th grade. I sat on something wet which caused my jeans and my underwear to get wet, which nullified the pad and it was very bad and VERY embarrassing.

5. which do you prefer, pads or tampons and why? Pads - mainly because the answer in #3

6. what are your favorite brands for feminine hygiene products?
Kotex - usually the night ones. I like Stayfree as well. I used to only use Always - until they changed the plasticy stuff on the top of the pad - dang it.

1. 11

2. Mom. And she proceeded to tell all my aunts. I'm serious.

3. Pads for a while, then tried tampons. Love tampons.

4. ALMOST embarrassing, in school. But I caught it in time.

5. Well, I like both. Tampons are great for when you are physical and swimming and you just don't want to have that diaper wearing feeling. But pads are good because I hate the feel of tampons in me (basically the feel like I need to go to the bathroom a lot)

6. Tampax is #1, Playtex #2.

1. I was 12 year old: I was at my mom's best friend's house, getting my hair done for a Beauty Pageant I was in, when I had to go to the bathroom. BOOM! There it was right in front of me: I freaked out at first, 'cause I wasn't expecting it; there was blood everywhere. Just when I was about to yell for my mom, I realized that alot of my friends at school were getting their periods and figured this had to be what was going on. I came out of the bathroom and told my mom and her best friend, and neither of them believed me! Lol* My mom said I must've cut myself or something...
*guess that answers number 2

3. My mom ordered this sample package from either Mary Kay or Avon (I don't remember which one exactly), that had a 12 pack of tampons and pads that you could try out to see which one you preferred. Well I wasn't about to choose the thing that looked like a plug (the tampon): I mean I was like, how do they expect you to put this thing on? So I went for the pads!

4. Mmm, as for an embarassing leak...I had a really bad leak one time, but no one noticed it. I had on some pretty dark jeans and I guess you couldn't really tell. I'm very fortunate; I've heard some of the horror stories....yipes!

5. To this day I stil wear pads, but I'm thinking of making the switch to tampons...who knows...?

6. I've never used anything except Always, since I was 12...I hate to even LOOK at anything else....yuck!

I was 14 years old. I actualy didn't even know I started, I thought I was sick but then I went to my mom and she explained how i started my period and blah blah blah...I started out with pads for the first like 2 or 3 times, then switched to tampons, tampons make you feeel MUCH cleaner. I've never had an embarassing leak because I am so paranoid so im always careful. The always clean wipes are the greatest!!

1. Fourteen.
2. I told my mom because I was on vacation and had no supplies on me.
3. Tampons. I had already known how to use them.
4. Not really. I had one but it was small and I was at home.. not too embarrasing.
5. Tampons- more comfort. I don't like the diaper-feeling and the fact that I'd be sitting in my own blood.
6. Playtex Gentle Glide.

i cant believe im about to answer this but hell im bored lol

1) i was 15
2) it happened at school and my friend was with me she was the first one to know on account she was there. then she ran upstairs to class and she got me a pad and she told everyone in the classroom. as soon as i walked back to class everyone started clapping and cheering, my math teach even knew. ohh goodness talk about embarassing. then my mom showed up at school, i was like please let this day be done with.
3) started with pads tried a tampon once but omg the pain so i was like never again!!!
4) i used to get them heavy for a whole month stop for a week then start over, so i would leak all over the place, wearing two pads didnt help. it was soo gross but thankfully now i have them for about 5 days and they seem to get so much lighter.
5) pads because there isnt the chance of getting TSS and its much simpler to use.
6) i have always used Always Ultra Thin Maxi Regular and Teen sized.
