is it done through a blood test. My boyfriend and I are going to be going to planned parenthood to get HIV tests before I go on birth control and we eventually do not use the condoms anymore. Also, how are STD tests administered for a male? I know for a female a pap smear is needed. thanks in advance!

oh and also, he is my first sexual partner so I'm not really worried for myself, im just doing it to be 100% sure with him.

There's more than one kind of STD test, HIV is only one of them. The pap smear test is to check for HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer. If you haven't already, you should get yourself vaccinated against HPV, since it's almost impossible to accurately test men for this virus.

There are two ways to be tested for HIV/AIDS. The clinicians will either take blood from your arm or swab the inside of your cheek--same for a man or a woman.

Good luck and way to be responsible!

some of the male tests are just blood draws. Others require a "smear" from you know where.

hiv is a blood test.........std testing in men is done with a swab through the urethra.......you are being very sensible to have that done, if you're gonna have sex it's best to be safe!
