I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX. Standard 5 speed Transmission. When i get on the highway and shift to 5th gear, i have very low acceleration getting from about 50 to 70-80 mph. How can i improve the acceleration in that region?

i would say shift out of fourth a bit later
its still not going to give you much acceleration in 5th
but you will get to your 70-80 mark much faster
and if you wanted it to really have a bit more kick
put an upgraded ecu chip in.

My suggestion would be to first check the tranny fluid. If thats all good, you might want to down shift into 4th and get your mph as high as possible without tacking the rpm's past 5-7g's. Otherwise you could blow the engine. but as soon as you've topped out in 4th, then go to 5th and see where your mph's are.

You need to downshift. The 5th gear is more for holding the speed that you have not accelerating. good luck.

Rev a little higher, you wont get much acceleration from 5th gear. It is your cruising/highway gear.

downshift, accelerate, upshift.

GET RIDE OF THE RAIN RACER AND GET A CHEVY..... but on a real note try cool air intake or oversized fuel injectors
