I have found the best approach for me has always been to feed twice a day. Once with flake or pelleted food and once with frozen or live food appropriate tot he type of fish you have.

I had a Betta fish and I fed him 2 a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Since you have 5 I would feed them 2 a day, but look on the container of the fish food to see how many shakes of food you should put in at one serving.
It may also say the number of times you should feed your fish a day. You should not feed your fish twice a day until you see how much you should be feeding them. You do not want to overfeed them or not feed them enough.

I got community tank that holds 12 fish. I feed my twice a day ones before I go to work and then after I come back. Now its important to not over feed them, try to give than about 3min of food what I mean by that is drop little pinch and if its eaten before 3min give them little more until 3min come to the and. It always worked for me.

I feed my adult fish twice a day. Once in the morning and once before I go to bed. Just feed them as much as they can eat within a few minutes. It is better to underfeed than it is to overfeed.

sprinkle some fish food in the tank once a day or once every coulple of days. you can ask your local pet store.
