In an ideal world, in which men and women had similar interests and were given similar preparation for all fields, this might be nice, but in the real world, it wouldn't work. To begin with, equal numbers of students of each gender don't apply for each major. If, say, 80% of applicants to psychology programs and 10% of applicants to physics programs are female, and the school were trying to absolute equality, each woman who applied would have a MUCH harder time getting into a psychology program and a MUCH easier time getting into a physics program than would each man who applied, which really wouldn't be fair. You would practically be forcing people into the programs against their will just to get gender equality, while those who really wanted to be there couldn't get in.

No. Accepting equal raw numbers would give a great deal of preference to students applying for admission in fields where their sex is usually not interested. When I went to Illinois, the engineering school was dominated by men, while the performing arts and sociology schools were dominated by women. So what? Admit the most qualified students who fulfill the school's preferences and needs.

No I don't agree. Universities should accept students into any major on the basis of merit. Only in situations where there is an apparent imbalance due to historical underrepresentation of females or males in a particular subject should there be any preference and it should be slight.

You need a position. Still, I have to agree. I'm a girl, and feel that we don't get the equal treatment we deserve. We gave birth to men, so now they think they can control me? Nope! Not gonna happen! Men and women are the same, so why can't their rights be the same, too?

There's nothing to agree to. You didn't pose a position. You asked a question, even if it isn't punctuated correctly.
