the lack of cooperation between the the elected democrats and the elected republicans in US politics?
Is anybody, Is nobody, interested anymore in solving the common problems that affect us all through moderation by peaceful democratic means. (examples of common problems faced across the planet are Weather problems, Immigration, poverty, hunger, sickness, misery, violence and war) Where has the spirit of progress so characteristic of the Age of Reason , the Age of Science and of the Enlightenment gone? Where?
Please, this is a non-partisan issue and I only point to partisan situations in order to illustrate the nature and scope of the issue which I believe boils down to an unwillingness to cooperate through constructive politics.

A good answer would reache beyond the particulars of each conflict to the bigger issue. I really don't like having to make this point to so many who want to avoid the bigger picture and dwell on the details of my illustrative examples.

I think that these people are too busy trying to make sure they get reelected and gather power they have little or no respect of their constituencies. They are too busy taking for grabted their "true believers" and talking what the polls say to do any good. They also let the extremes run things rather listen to those who are the voices of reason and compromise. They both play on our fears which is only exacerbated by the opposte party's extreme stance. There are few people in either party who have integrity. There are a few who even if I may not agree with all of their policies respect their integrity. It is a sad case that integrity is such a commodity.

These examples are the most common available and both pertain to religion. The religious right the world over will not permit progress without a fight. It doesn't matter if you're Sunni, Protestant, Shia, Catholic, Baptists, or Wahhabi, etc.etc. These religious fanatics have been and will continue to be antagonists to the positive evolution of humanity. They have purposely interwoven fanatical ideologies into politics to the extreme that they are virtually inseparable.

Most of the support for forms of peace are partisan and have motivations that the people do not find helpful for peace. It is funny how you can take a homeless person into your home and give them the world and they will repay you by taking all you have. When it is all said and done both parties are resentful. Motivations to peace have never been bought and paid for. Political ambitions are not the will of the people. Religion is not about peace.

Well for one thing... Democrats and Rebuplicans haven't waged Jihad against each other. There's no suicide bombers running over to the other party's national convention. That's why it hasn't been deplored like your other examples.
This issue definitely should be discussed and tried to remedy though. It seems that more energy is being poured into smearing the other party than to actually trying to improve this country... that's a problem. Sadly though, I don't think it will ever be solved.

They are starting to work together in Iraq now
Prominent Shiite and Sunni politicians called on Iraqi civilians to take up arms to defend themselves after a weekend of violence that claimed more than 220 lives, including 60 who died Sunday in a surge of bombings and shootings around Baghdad.
The different branches of Islam in Iraq have finally figured out that the insurgents are not fighting for Iraq, but fighting against Iraq.

I have a very dismal view of our politicians. They are politicians because they know that they can make an enormous amount of money by being politicians. Think of it this way...you are a senator. A big corporate lobbyist calls you and wants to meet for lunch. You say "OK." He offers you one million dollars to support his stance on immigration, which is "Let them come on in. Look at Texas, it has driven the yearly wage down from 18k to 14k. It saves us money." Are you going to turn down one million dollars, under the table, to do what you think is right?

I blame it all on the Democrats. When President Bush was first elected. He extended his hand in friendship to Ted Kennedy and his cronies. The Dems in effect bit his arm off at the elbow. Remember the invitation to the White House for pop corn and movies?
The Dems have been railing against Mr. Bush ever since he took office.
