Okay. For me, it is not about being sullen and dramatic if I do that. It just means either I felt the other person did not want me to speak or I had nothing to contribute that would help the person in their current state of mind.

I don't really ever intend on using the "silent treatment." I only use the "silent treatment" if I haven't been able to compose my thoughts about what is upsetting me yet... There's a lot to consider, not just how I feel, but how the other person will react to what I say... I don't want to say something that is retaliatory, and that will just cause further hurt feelings. I just want to make myself clear about why I'm upset about something... So I wait until I can get it right... and until I do that gets interpreted as the "silent treatment."

I use it whenever somebody rubs me the wrong way. I also use it when somebody did something shitty behind my back! I just try to separate myself from people like that. Although IF it is a friend I find it hard to keep ignoring them.

Only when I'm so angry I'm incapable of saying anything nice. It's more like I'm censoring myself or avoiding WWIII. My husband knows he'd better leave me alone or he'll end up getting blasted when I reach that quiet point.

Yep. And it worked on my ex-boyfriend. I heard that he was cheating and until I found out that it was a lie, I gave him the S.T.

Never...doesn't do anyone any good. If I'm upset I just say it and get to the making up part!
