thanks to those who responded....i want to drive down from east georgia to somewhere on west side of florida...looking for blue water/white sand.....would like a hotel/resort that is on the beach with beachfront pool and bar, i am taking my wife and leaving the kid at home, so we want a place that is more adult or young adult (not a bunch of young children) where we can just kick back at the pool or on the beach and drink cocktails and gaze at the blue water (and hopefully some nice tans walking by on the beach!), maybe some nice bars/restaurants by the beach too. we have heard about clearwater, siesta key, naples etc. but don['t know where to go. any advice appreciated!

I hate to answer with a question first, but it sounds like you rarely if ever go to Florida -- with 3 kids would you rather be closer to the Orlando area? If so, I might recommend that you look at the area around Cocoa Beach. It's fun, a little honky-tonk, and pretty. Less than an hour from Orlando, and yet not to high-brow that the prices will be insane. And very close to Kennedy Space Center. Some say the gulf coast is prettier if it's JUST a beach you're after -- you might want to look at Naples or Marco Island. Lots to do in Naples; more laid-back and relaxing in Marco. I know this won't be best answer because I'm not really giving all the info you wanted, but I wanted to be sure to at least point you in some of my favorite directions in case no one can give you anything more specific.
