I just bought the Eclipse 5 Hex aquarium and the filter doesnt seem to be filtering. Water is going through it in the top, but no bubbles are going out of the bottom part in the tank. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please?!?

I have the regular bowfront Eclipse in a few different sizes, so the filter is probably similar - an uptake tube to a small cartridge with carbon, then a biowheel, then return to the tank.

These filters aren't meant to produce bubbles. Most of the dissolved oxygen in the water comes from surface movement in the form of ripples anyway. The water level should be kept up to the top near where the water comes out so it makes a ripple rather than a waterfall for the best aeration.

If you want bubbles for the visual effect, you can get a separate air pump and airstone or small bubble wand, but these really aren't needed - they're more of a "decorative look" for you.

I have never owned one of these "Eclipse" tank with the buit-in filter so I'n not exactly sure how the filter works exactly. If it a type of power filter or "outside filter" I would suggest making sure that the compartment that holds the filter media in is completely filled with water because if it is not it will be unable to complete its cycle as it will keep trying to pull the water through into the compartment and will not be able to unless it is full already, that is where you come in to fill it initially. Like I said I am not sure if this is applicable to the "Eclipse" system but if so I'll bet that that is the problem. Otherwise I would suggest that it is defective and should be returned or exchanged where you bought it as long as you still have the receipt.
