As one responder said, sharks are neither good nor bad in a morla sense. And it is not really helpful to think of life as only valuable when it is for our benefit. But let me give you an example how the lives of sharks affect our well being.

Large shark species along the northwest Atlantic coast have declined largely in numbers due to overexploitation by fisheries. With these apex predators removed, other, smaller elasmobranchs (i.e., sharks, skates, and rays), in particular rays and skates, which are normally eaten by the larger species, increased dramatically in numbers. One species that especially increased in population size was the cownose ray (Rhinoptera bonasus). Off the coast of North Carolina cownose rays feed on bay scallop, for which there existed a flourishing fishery on the Outer Banks. But with the shark populations diminished, the ray population increased and there was greater predation on the scallops. The scallop population caved in and the fishermen went out of business.

This is an impressive example how the overexploitation of apex predators can affect not only the well being of the oceans, but also ours.

There are about 350 species of sharks, most of which pose very little threat to humans. There are about a dozen that have been documented to bite humans. There are only about 100 shark attacks worldwide per year. Given that there are 6 billion people on the planet, only 100 are attacked by sharks and most survive..how do you justify the claim that they eat us?

MANY sharks are killed each year due to overfishing. Shark fins are considered a delicacy in much of asian cooking so they will catch sharks on very cruel snares, cut off the fins and then release the shark which usually drowns as they need to be able to swim in order to breathe.

Do you know that about 2,000 people die each year in the US due to bee stings? That is 20 times the number of people attacked (not killed just attacked) in the entire world. I imagine there are similar numbers of beesting deaths in other countries.

As has already been stated, sharks are an apex predator, they actually prey on many creatures that do not have many other natural enemies. For example, they are one of the primary predators of skates and rays. When there is an overabundance of skates and rays, there is a lack of fish as they need to eat every day while most sharks eat sporadically, some only need to eat about once a month.

Please learn about sharks in more depth, I think you may find that they are not the monsters that movies depict.

Nature does not revolve around the needs of humans. Sharks existed long before humans.

Sharks are neither good nor evil. They're just sharks, an apex predator that lives in the ocean. Life is what it is. It existed just fine before humans came along making value judgments on particular species (dogs are good, sharks are bad, etc.).

Ok, initially sharks just sucked, but through the course of evolution, nature created an equillibrium between predator and prey. When you get rid of the sharks, the fish have nothing stopping them from overproducing. The fish overproduce, and overgraze, and start to destroy the coral reef that gives them life. That kills off the fish, and then nothing stops the algae from growing, so the algae overgrows, and all the biodiversity is gone from the ocean.

In certain areas the sharks prey on seals which prey on fish. Less sharks means more seals means less fish. So the loss of the shark means the loss of the fishery in that area. These particular sharks don't waste their time eating the small fish being harvested and instead prey on seals and sea lions.

I acquired so excited over the final target, I unintentionally jumped and kicked a bowl at the desk (brief desk) subsequent to me. I've visible a few amusing exercises video games in my existence and this certainly ranks within the most sensible 10. My #one million in a UW WSU soccer recreation wherein WSU used to be ranked #12 and with eight:00 left within the 4th WSU used to be forward 19-7, a towchdown, and interception, one more landing after which an interception again for a landing later my crew, UW, received 27-19. Best exercises night time of my existence. I dunno. I'm no longer going to mention so much approximately the sequence. I used to be hitting my legs in anger for the primary 15 minutes, then five minutes of brilliance. They are not able to do this regardless that. They threaded the needle with this win. The momentum handiest reallt switched proper earlier than the tip with the rather questionable icing that result in the flurry after which the target. I desire I had CSN, I might like to have heard Hahn name that target. Also the canadian biased CBC brodcasts aregetting to me increasingly. I do not blame them, Calgary is their crew, however nonetheless. San Jose makes a well play and it is "Calgary makes a mistake" Oh yeah, the bowl is fine.

They're apex predators, at the top of the food chain. As such, they fill an important role in the ocean ecology. Trouble is, we're slaughtering them at the rate of 100 million a year. Several species are now on the edge of extinction.
