It's a win-win situation if you buy a Mac running an Intel processor. In that way, you can dual boot with Windows XP and be able to utilize its advantages; and you have an elegant apple computer.

The lowest cost for a Macintosh computer is $599 new and probably cheaper used on a place like Ebay. They can be faster than Windows p.c.'s and there are more and more software applications for Macs everyday but that still doesn't compare with the amount of software available for P.C.'s. If you do a-lot of graphics and videos Macs are probably a good choice because of their power and abundance of graphical editing applications like Final Cut Pro and Avid. But if you do the games and such P.C.'s have much more flexibility. Also there are issues with compatibility of office aps between Windows and Mac.

Mac Minis are around $700, Ibooks start around $1000.
While Macs have some advantages over Windows PCs- it really comes down to what you need to do. For some applications, there just isn't much Mac software available.

If you are going to design graphics then a desk top costs about 6000$. If you just want to do browsing, few photo & movies then a desk top worht 2000$ will do.
Mac's are said to be better then PC for graphics and they might be stable than pc. Apple is a Linux based sistem. They tend to be 2 times cost of similarly configured PC.
If you don't want to use lates Office applications (Mac versions tend to be 6 month behind windows versions) then mac is a choice for you. If you are price conceous then PC is better.

They're competitive in price with Windows machines, with more versatility and user friendliness. They also don't shut down all the time and give cryptic error messages.
