Sounds good to me. It would still be less than I pay for my insurance now.

Not sure where you get your numbers but they sure aren't US numbers. The highest income tax rate is 35% so the wealthiest taxpayers don't pay ANYTHING near 65% in taxes now even when SS and state taxes are taken into consideration. In fact, the wealthiest taxpayers get much of their income from capital gains which are taxed at only 15% and most of the wealthiest taxpayers have a net tax rate of less than 25%.
All of that said, socialized medicine run by the government isn't the answer. On the other hand, universal healthcare is. The net cost would be in the region of 5% of total income as a combination of taxes, employer contributions, employee contributions, private health insurance policies, and government paid healthcare for the poorest of the poor.

Nobody has suggested Universal health CARE. You mean Universal health INSURANCE. Let's start there. I suppose you'd have to consider what you're paying now and how much more you'll pay in the future. At this point fewer and fewer employers are willing or able to pay full bore for employee health benefits...some have stopped the practice altogether. If you pay for health insurance out of pocket it's a lot more than a group plan and if you have pre-existing condition insurance carriers wont insure you. There's also the situation where those without any insurance sometimes get 'free' care, but guess who pays for it? The insured get higher bills and your taxes take up the slake. A single payer non-profit health insurance plan would lower everyones bill even though there still would be deductables and co-pays involved. Spreading the risk lowers the cost. Give it a think.

"Middle 40% USA tax would increase from 28% to 37%
Poorest 30% USA tax would increase from 6% to 14%
Richest 30% USA tax would increase from 65% to 67%"
Democrats would tax the rich way more than an increase in 2%.

Go see the movie "Sicko" and then answer this person's question. The asker obviously works for Kaiser-Permanente, Aetna, Cigna, or some other U.S. health insurance company. Don't get blind-sided by the spin-doctors of the George W. Bush machine that has stuffed almost a million dollars cash into George W's own personal bank account! Hillary has recently switched-hit and has taken healthcare lobbyist money too!
I haven't heard a single person from Canada, England, Australia, France, or elsewhere complain yet about their healthcare. PLEASE ANSWER US HERE ON YAHOO ANSWERS!!! YOU KNOW WE'RE HERE! YAHOO ANSWERS IS WORLDWIDE!!! The falsehoods we've heard about universal care being bad for the U.S. is ALL generated from U.S. health insurance companies,, U.S. pharmaceuticals, and our U.S.government elected officials that rake in millions of dollars in personal kick-backs from U.S. healthcare lobbyists.
It's NOT an increase in amount coming out of your pocket for our county to switch to universal health care .... 1)Your employer won't be covering their share of your present premium (and it is HIGHER than you can imagine); 2) You won't be paying your smaller share of that premium; nor dental; 3) You will never have a deductible, nor a co-pay, nor any expense at all ... it's FREE... BECAUSE all that money from 1,2, & 3 above gets diverted into the universal health care system .... how does it get there? Yes, by a fair & balanced tax ... don't think of it as an increase of taxes....instead, it's a shuffle of your funds over to the new system. And guess what....YOUR PAYCHECK GOES UP!!! The money your employer was paying for health coverage before on you should now get paid directly to you on your paycheck! It was always your money! Taxes go up, but your paycheck goes up! You get a raise! And if you don't get the raise... you should raise some hell with your employer for keeping that extra money owed to you! And as an extra bonus ... No more price gouging by the hospitals, pharmaceuticals, healthcare insurance organizations, dentists, etc... our government will have control to stop the money-making monster of our present corrupt U.S. health care system.
It's no different than how we (the U.S.) presently get service for police protection, firefighter protection, public school education, U.S. postal system (for the most part), public libraries service, etc... Health care in the same manner only makes sense! All the other countries think of themselves in the form of the"WE" The head honchos running the US only think in the form of the "ME" $$$. They would rather you would die if it can save them a buck! $$$ http://www.sicko-themovie.com/

Seems reasonable to me and cheaper than my current health plan. Some people seem to be confusing Universal Coverage (which is more like an insurance thing) with socialized medicine. It doesn't have to be the same thing at all. Imagine a group plan with 300 million people in the group. That's bound to have more clout that most small businesses can muster.
Everyone already pays for the indigent health care and usually at the highest rates since they more likely wait until they need to go to the emergency room, instead of cheaper approaches which would be available if they could afford to go earlier.

I think that most Americans feel that they have already paid for this many times over.
The problem is and has always been the fact that we are paying the bill for all of the rip-offs that are being worked against you so that some fat piece of dog dung can be rich.
A tax increase is not necessary, but will probably happen with this.It needs to be fair though.

No new taxes, there's enough waste in the federal budget to pay for it, don't cater to the pharmaceuticals, Here's a dirty little secret Americans spend billions on looking good. Americans spend millions on dieting when everyone knows all you need is a organic diet and some exercise, this would also help the medical system. There is also waste in medicare & medicade, and I mean millions

I like the idea of a federal sales tax. Take 1-2% in addition to the state sales tax (unless you have none). I also liked the idea another answerer had. Tax the things that cause bad health. Fast foods, cigarettes, and the like.

Ok, sold, raise the taxes, that would actually mean MORE income as other expenses would be saved!
Geeze, EVERY time conservatives try to bash nationalized health care, they trot out stuff that proves nationalized health care is a good idea.

I am thinking that it would be close to....well let's say....zero percent? If I had no other choice to pay for universal (I'd still have private insurance either way) and I could elect what group(s) to have that money sent to it would be for cancer patients 17 and younger or US veterans. I'm sure the illegals that keep flooding in our borders and hospitals will make us bankrupt with the funds in that department anyway.
Why in God's name would someone want to give nearly half their paycheck to a government that they despise?!
