Well, just like the first person said, they didn't expect such huge success. But you know what? I think that the next Nintendo system is going to be much cooler and they'd probably actually have more than 4 million units at launch. Don't worry, you'll get the Wii soon. As long as PS2 survives, the Wii will survive even better. Once HD and Blueray graphics and stuff like movies and internet and all of that stuff Xbox and PS3 offer will really matter, that's when there'd be a new Nintendo system. Meanwhile, don't worry about not getting the Wii yet... But if you don't get it soon, you'll have up to $1000 you'd want to spend on everything Wii. By now, it's $500 or more money that you'd want to spend for the Wii and for everything else Wii like games and accessories. I suggest look closely at the online market and check in at your local GameStop's, EB Games's, and Toys "R" Us's. Goodluck finding one. If you pay a few dollars over the real price, don't be a fool and buy it. It's all worth it. I got mine for 300, just so you know... Well, goodluck!

Because Nintendo needs to spread their sales over the entire fiscal year, and they need to make a progress report to their investors on a quarterly basis, so if Nintendo sold all their Wiis within a month, it may look really good for the first quarter of the fiscal year, but then for the rest of the year, it's going to look pretty bad when there's not a whole lot of Wii being sold.
The shortage also helps Nintendo get free publicity.

Nintendo didn't expect Wii to be so popular in demand. They probably didn't want to make to much, like they did with the gamecube. They are making them as fast as they can. :)

Start checking online.
There was a MAJOR shortage here in Richmond-- Now, you can find one.. just call around to the major game stores and department stores.
The PS3 is also in overbundant supply here. They can't get rid of them now.
