Not many years ago, **everyone** knew that "amateur" is pronouced, "AMA-chur." **Not** "AMA-ter."

What tipping point caused our sportcasters to become so dumbed-down?!?

"Amateur" is quickly becoming one of the most mispronounced words in the English language. And the media is giving us an almost non-stop stream of that "amater" nonsense.

Words evolve over time for no apparent reason, and amateur seems to be one of them. Other examples: Caribbean, Qatar.

I have no idea what happened, but within the last decade or so everyone start saying am-ah-ture instead of am-ah-chure.

Can't blame the sportscasters for following public usage on this one.

maybe he read something wrong, made a mistake....
