Well if you sent me on a literal wild goose chase, I'd bring back the goose if I were able to catch it. If it were an anecdotal wild goose chase, I'd bring back nothing since that phrase means to send someone looking for something that does not exist..

I'd bring back the knowledge that I was just sent out on a "wild goose chase" with the sender knowing I was to find nothing, except maybe myself.

Well, I don't have to bring back a wild goose. I live on the water on Long Island, NY and wild geese visit me every day. Also swans and wild ducks. Why would anyone want to chase a wild goose anyway?

What would you be looking for, is this a literal question? Because if it is I would probably bring back a wild goose or somethig similar. Wow people ask some weird questions now a days.
