I think Iron Maiden is in a class of their own. They are metal, to be sure, but off the top of my head I can't think of a band who told a story via epic length songs like Maiden.
I do know that a friend of mine,a huge Maiden fan, is also a big fan of Glen Danzig.
Metallica's "And Justice for All" has some good ,long songs,also.

There is no one like IRON MAIDEN , but these bands are very good to. Rainbow, Dio, Motorhead, Helloween, Queensryche, Dream Theater, Scorpions, Rush, Megadeth, Deep Purple. These bands are all good but if you want someone close to Maiden there really is no one. Take a look at these bands there very good. If you like punk look into these bands. The Stranglers, The Misfits, TSOL, Social Distortion, Minor Threat, X. If you like Metal or Punk whatever its is thers is only two kinds of music Good and Bad. Finally The best band is THE MIGHTY IRON MAIDEN.

but don't listen to their last album or that one jazzy/rock album entitled snake something
