Remember I am talking children's books

In college, this was my favorite course....it used to be a required course for your teaching degree; I really don't know if it still is or not. I still read children's lit books; they are far better written than most adult books......

This is a hard question because there are so many great characters out there. A couple of my favorites would be: A Long Way from Chicago, by Richard Peck. This is a GREAT story about a boy who visits his eccentric grandmother every summer during the 1930's. Grandma Dowdel is one of my VERY FAVORITE characters.

Another favorite children's or young adult book is Beyond the Western Sea, by Avi. This book is full of interesting, lovable, hatable, and quirky characters who grow as the story progresses.

And who can leave out Ramona Quimby? She is a classic child who you can love and understand while laughing your way through the book.

My all-time favorite is His Dark Materials - A trilogy by Phillip Pullman. The books are [in order]: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass.

They are incredible and beautiful and amazingly well written.

I read them as an adult, but I can't wait until my daughter is old enough for me to read them to her :)

When I was a child, I read my copy of The Black Stallion by Walter Farley until the cover fell off. My favorite character was Alec. I was so amazed by the fact that he was just a little kid, but he could do all of these amazing things like tame a completely wild horse and ride in a huge race and win. It made me feel like I could do anything even though I was just a kid.

Oh my, so many wonderful books, so little time!

"The Monster at the End of This Book" was my absolute favorite book as a kid! My poor gram had to read it to me every night over and over until I fell asleep!

"Skippy John Jones" is hysterical! It's fun to read and has wonderful dialogue.

"Charlotte's Web," "Thunder From the Sea," "Shiloh," "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing," "The Tale of Despereaux," and "Frindle" are all books I have read to my students over the years. They absolutely love them!

miss piggly wiggly was good too. my mom would read that to me at night. it was about this little old lady who lived in an upside down house and she would help all the children who lived near her (and she would teach them lessons.) i am not doing the book justice with my explanation, im sorry. those are my two favorite though :)

I generally don't like talking animal books. "The Secret Garden" is a wonderful book, suitable for children around nine and up. It has both boy and girl protagonists, so it's suitable for either sex.
