First all, not everyone in the armed services is a Republican. Really, I swear. I know some real live Democrats who serve.
Second of all you forgot:
teachers
social workers
business people
scientists
doctors
nurses
lawyers
and people in just about everything profession there is.
Clearly, you don't actually know enough Democrats to know what you are talking about.

Me.
People who watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report and get it.
I'm a shameless capitalist working for a computer corporation that I'm sure you have heard of. Paying taxes, a mortage, voting - pretty much the same person as you.
Like you, I don't like being told what to believe on Sundays (or any other day of the week), I don't like being told that 'creationism' is science, I don't like seeing people lie and obstruct justice. I don't like seeing the US give up the principles of the Geneva Convention and condoning torture (which has been proven not to deliver reliable information). I don't like the Extraordinary Rendition operation. I don't like being manipulated by politicians who tell me that there is a good reason to invade a country when there wasn't (There was no plan to purchase Uranium from Niger, no meeting of Al Qaeda operatives and Iraqis in the Czech Repub.; no weapons of mass destruction). I don't like being told that if I don't agree like a robot with everything Bill OReilly says I am not an American (F* you Bill).
Real Americans stand up for what they believe in. Even if it isn't approved by Rupert Murdoch and Dick Cheney.

Intelligent individuals who want to live in a country where the citizens live comfortably and have compassion for their fellow countrymen/women. Democrats are individuals who respect and protect the Constitution and don't allow idealist conservatives (i.e. college republicans, radical religious fanatics) to push their beliefs upon an entire nation.

Union workers have no problem with if they dont ask the goverment to play arbitrator in disputes, but that not likely.

My "fellows"? Nice English.
To answer your question, we won both World Wars, ended poverty during the great depression, founded Social Security to provide for our elderly, founded the Veterans Administration to care for our troops, We DON'T invade harmless sovereign nations without justification, we CARE about the environment . . . . .
How far would you like me to go with this..
