Charlaine Harris has a really good vamp series. I note a couple people recommended Stephanie Meyer - good choice also. I also recommend Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series - about a modern day wizard. Magic Time by Marc Scott Zicree (post EMP earth). Laurel K Hamilton has an excellent Anita Blake series about vamps, werewolves, zombies, etc. Happy reading !

The obvious ones like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Chronicles of Narnia.
Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer.
Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix.
Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini.
Abarat and Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War by Clive Barker.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.
A Wrinkle in Time (and the other three) by Madeleine L'Engle.
Those are all my favorite books of those genres.

Isaac Asimov wrote or edited about 100 science fiction books. His series, "I Robot," started a trend. I love his books of short stories. He was probably the most prolific of all the science fiction writers. Check him out. You'll be amazed!

"2001" A Space Odyssey", by Arthur Clarke. The book and the novel came out in 1968. They're both classics in the genre.

Any of the Ender or Shadow series by Orson Scott Card. I am not ordinarily a sci-fi fan but I read these and couldn't stop reading them. They are great books and will keep you busy.
For some humor mixed in try Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy and any of Terry Pratchett.
Enjoy!
