I see so many questions on who pays for what.
"Well if he pays for child support he shouldn't pay for college."
"If he pays child support why should he help with braces?"

Does anyone know how much it even costs to raise a kid?

According to some sites I've looked at it will cost around $300,000 to raise a child, which includes 4 years of public college, up to the age of 22.

Now, if a non-custodial parent pays child support at an average of $400 a month, they're paying $105,600 for 22 years. That's not even half of the overall cost of raising the child!

The custodial parent is responsible for bringing the child to birthday parties, school events, sporting activities & so on. The other parent just has to show up.

The custodial parent has to help with homework, make sure the child stays healty, stay home from work when the child is ill, go to doctor appts. etc.

Unexpected expenses arise, one would think if it was ABOUT THE CHILD the other parent would readily help.

usually the scenarios you speak of are brought up during the custody hearing...its supposed to be that the parents split what ever health costs arnt covered by health insurance...this goes for schooling as well...child support is supposed to cover for food/clothes/daily needs ie tp/shampoo etc i have all but given up on the government helping in getting the money im owed from my ex and would rather do it on my own than deal with his bs. no one could ever calculate the cost of having a child.

while everything you said is true, there are a lot of parents who simply refuse to pay in the first place for just about anything...or they pay what THEY think is enough so that they can live their live according to their taste and simply keep the child in clothes and fed. There are a lot of issues with courts rulings as well, so it isn't all on the parents all the time

ummm chill out! did you take into consideration that when the couiple is together there is one rent payment one phone payment one cable payment. and when they split there are 2 of everything. he HAS to have enough to live on too! dont be so unfair. and i can tell you that MOST women dont spend all that money on their kids they buy **** for themselves. how would women like it if they had to keep child support in a seperate account so they can prove it goes to the child. if its such a BURDEN and so expensive then give him the child and he can quit payin you support all together!!!!
